Arteles is a modern residency centre, created in 2009, which is situated in the middle of the forest and provides a space for artists from different fields and backgrounds to work together in order to develop the autonomous space with new futurist projects and networks.
A similar comparison can be found in the Black Mountain College, a place founded in 1933, in the middle of the forest, which invited young creators (such as John Cage, Robert Rauschenberg, Allan Kaprow, among others) to make something that wasn’t possible to create elsewhere.
During the most recent call for proposals, Arteles received 214 applications from professional artists around the world. Of these, 35 artists were chosen for the 2011 period. The jury’s primary basis for acceptance was: "The stranger the idea, the better”. Come hear about what these chosen artists are doing!
International students of the Jyväskylä University and students from the Art and Culture Research Department can negotiate credits with lector, Kimmo Lehtonen (kimmo.e.lehtonen(at)jyu.fi) and students from the Jyväskylä University of Applied Science can negotiate credits with the AV-production lector, Aimo Hyvärinen (aimo.hyvarinen(at)jamk.fi). The conferences are part of a contemporary art course organized by the Jyväskylä Art Museum in congruence with the Live Herring ’11 events.
The Conference days are organized as a joint project between, Arteles, the Jyväskylä Art Museum, the Jyväskylä University’s Department of Art and Culture Research, Live Herring workgroup / The Central Finnish Council for the Arts, The Centre for Creative Photography and the Jyväskylä University of Applied Science.

Arteles in collaboration with HIT 13.06.2010
Helsinki International Theatre (HIT) organizes a two week working period in Arteles in July 2010. The process culminates itself in a spectacle which will be performed in Arteles on 23th of July. The production group is international and is gathering together professionals of theatre and circus from all over the world. The performance called COR explores the function of heart as a metaphor for an organic essence of the deepest. It is based on group process and several improvisations. Working takes its forms in workshops. The process starts by investigating movement with sound which is then later on processed intensively in few separate demo groups. Afterwards these separate elements are brought together and developed in to an entirety. COR is directed by Anna Jaanisoo (Est), choreographed by Leandro Leite (Bra) and the sound designer is Michael Pulsford (Aus), an Arteles summer residency artist. |
